How much sleep does a newborn need?
Newborns (0–3 months) are generally recommended to get 14–17 hours of sleep per night, per National Sleep Foundation guidelines.
Newborn sleep is spread across day and night in short bursts rather than one consolidated block, and the 90-minute adult cycle length doesn't really apply yet — infant sleep cycles are closer to 50–60 minutes. Follow your pediatrician's guidance over any calculator here.
